Les labels Stygian Crypt productions (Russie) et Possession productions (Biélorussie) en jougneant leur forces viennent tout juste de publier la compilation THERION – Blood Of The Dragon. Il s'agit d'un double cd - en édition limité à 666 exemplaires et en format digipack - qui réunit bien 26 chansons. Le premier cd - formé de 10 titres - présente des covers qui ont été réalisées par le groupe suédois Therion. Il s'agit de titres studio ou live très rares et qui figurent sur d'autres compilations mais qui jamais n'ont été regroupés. Les version de Therion de groupes classiques sont magnifiques. Therion est fidèle à l'originale mais il y apporte sa patte de metal symphonique et chorale que ce soit par les instruments ou par les nombreux chanteurs.
C'est ainsi que les covers de Venom, Metallica, Motörhead passent très bien. Ce qui m'a particulièrement plu ce sont les versions live de Revelations (Iron Maiden) et de Black Funeral (Mercyful Fate) et ce dernier titre (black funeral) se vaut de la participation live du chanteur Messiah Marcolin (ex Candlemass). La qualité est bonne, très bonne même.
Le deuxième cd se compose de 16 titres de groupes metal qui réalisent des covers de titres de Therion. Ces groupes sont tous underground et piochent dans la discographie de Therion. On a donc une large palette de titres qui sont bien exécutés et réalisées et qui permettent de découvrir des groupes très intéressants. THEUDHO avec son titre Schwarzalbenheim est formidable, de même THE EXPERIMENT no.Q qui reprend Seven Secrets Of The Sphynx est très bon. J'en ai cité que deux mais sachez que la qualité est là.
Il est vrai que sortir une compilation est un projet casse gueule. D'abord parce que le fan d'un groupe normalement possède tous ou presque ses albums. De l'autre parce que grâce à / à cause de internet on peut écouter tout gratuitement ou presque. Le joker proposé par Stygian Crypt prods / Possession prods possède plusieurs atout qui font de cette compilation un produit très intéressant : d'abord les covers réalisées par Therion sont vraiment solides et on les a pour la première fois toutes réunies. Deuxièmement, les groupes qui font une covers de Therion sont aussi très valides et intéressant. Alors cette compilation permet aux fans de Therion de découvrir des titres rares et solides.
