[news] XTREEM MUSIC - Putrevore (Death Metal Juggernaut)

XTREEM MUSIC - Putrevore (Death Metal Juggernaut)

PUTREVORE (Sweden/Spain) - 'Tentacles of Horror'

Genre - Death Metal
Release Date -
October 10th, 2015
Official PR courtesy - Xtreem Music

The album of the year has probably arrived. We all know what a death metal machine Rogga Johansson is, and when his music meets the phlegmy throat of Dave Rotten, the sickness turns into an epidemic. This is the best form of death metal, bearing the old school essence with present day relevance, tempered to the right degree, permeated by the thick, deep and hoarse voice of Mr.Rotten. Words emanating from Mr.Rotten's throat probably have some tenuous, infected, hair-like texture, which would explain everything. The plagued thing is alive and twitching. And you are twitching with it. Death metal this simple, nay, clear in its vision, with such effectiveness cannot go unpraised. It's difficult to find faults with this. Crushing juggernaut heaviness meets lethal brain-latching riffs meets superbly enunciated growls from a demon possessed by some obscure ancient force. This encapsulates everything you love about death metal. Period.

[news] CENDRA (Spain) - 666 Bastards (Black/Thrash Metal)

CENDRA (Spain) - 666 Bastards (Black/Thrash Metal, January 1st, 2015, Xtreem Music)

Here's some rabid old school-spirited black/thrash metal that no one can get enough of. It's the essence of the genre transformed into something fricking cool, catchy and with enough attitude to make you want to be a part of it. It's the '80s style thrash/punk/first wave black metal with a better production, execution and oomph value. We're looking at the early works of SODOM, BATHORY, VENOM, HELLHAMMER and IMPALED NAZARENE, even BLASPHEMY, but that's really not enough because it's concocted with a vital dose of lethality and sharpness of the current standards. That makes it refreshing, powerful, energetic and so much fun.

[news] DETENTE (US) - Recognize No Authority

DETENTE (US) - Recognize No Authority (Thrash Metal, December 15th, 2014, Xtreem Music)

From California, US, Detente remained an underground force, managing to release only one full length album at that time after a few demos. This is it. Looking back, it's not hard to see why it had so much appeal - the riffing is clean, elegant yet stunning, the vocals elevate the music to a different level and the execution is near flawless. The music carries a raw energy, a special classic vibe that's impossible to recreate in these times. There's just so much passion and excitement - one can derive a vicarious thrill just listening to it. Xtreem Music has done a fantastic job putting it all together, all the early material of Detente as well as CATALEPSY demos (band formed by Detente members).

[news] NAILGUN MASSACRE - Boned, Boxed And Buried

NAILGUN MASSACRE - Boned, Boxed And Buried (Death Metal, January 10th, 2014, Xtreem Music)

This is Old School Death Metal reminiscent of one of the genre's overlooked originators of sorts, NECROPHAGIA, the same gloom, horror vibe and doom; it is also comparable to AUTOPSY, mid-period ABSCESS, OBITUARY and early ASPHYX. This is gut-churning, twisted Death Metal, reeking of foulness, perversion and rot in spirit and sound. AUTOPSY and its clones propagated this style, crossing and blending boundaries of the genre in the form of Goregrind, and this band is taking it forward still. It's catchy, thick like PUNGENT STENCH, has its roots in old school music but is served with the right dose of everything mentioned, making it rather palatable and revolting - just perfect.

[news] DRAP (Sweden) - En Naturlig Dod

DRAP (Sweden) - En Naturlig Dod (Crust/Grind/Punk/D-beat, December 8th 2014, Xtreem Music)

Drap got picked up by Xtreem Music to unleash their brand of crust/grind/hc to a worldwide audience. More people need to be initiated into this style of music which is parallel to grindcore albeit with a darker edge, wider range of influences stemming from punk/hardcore music. Swedish bands are well known for this style of music, with bands like SKITSYSTEM, DISFEAR and DRILLER KILLER propagating it, and more recently grindcore bands like SPLITTER, AFGRUND and THE ARSON PROJECT taking it forward. Expect a combination of both here - the intensity of grindcore coupled with the crusty/punk/hardcore quality that we've come to admire of late. 'En Naturlig Dod' is a sublime record, representing the best qualities of it all, executed impeccably and produced to retain the necessary rawness without taking anything away from it. The music is brimming with palpable tension, going from one short song to the other with sustained mad fervour, fulfilling the quota of the right heaviness with needed substance.

[news] NANGILIMA - The Dark Matter (Xtreem Music)

NANGILIMA (Sweden/Spain) - The Dark Matter (Doom Metal, November 8th 2014, Xtreem Music)

Nangilima are an international band with members contributing from Sweden and Spain. Xtreem Music owner has a good ear indeed. Nangilima play atmospheric doom metal saturated with dream sequences almost. Yet it has a creepy quality to it. In that state, good or bad is your perception because reality distorts it all. 'The Dark Matter' reaches out with its melancholic, wistful music, playing emotive doom metal similar to the Finnish and Swedish greats - the funeral doom atmosphere of the former and the melodic sensibility of the latter. This is thick, rich doom metal comparable to Shape of Despair, November's Doom, Doom:VS, Swallow the Sun, Saturnus and Grey Skies Fallen.

[news] STORMVOLD (Spain) - Third Bestial Mutilation (2014)

Hey readers !
Xtreem Music is relentless and so I have to be. But with so much diversity and quality, it's never a bad thing. This one is from Spain, from the veteran member Ebola of Cryfemal (so underrated!) and many other bands. This dude's got a background. And it works.

STORMVOLD (Spain) - Third Bestial Mutilation (Bestial Death Metal, November 15th, 2014, Xtreem Music)

Stormvold whip out some nasty bestial black/death music. It relies on little else other than pure raging emotions translated to horrifying music. This hearkens back to the time Blasphemy, Necrovore, Possessed, Molested, Sarcofago and others set out on this path but Stormvold add their own touches to the art. There are subtle undercurrents of black metal menace and guile, slashes of blood and chaos, on a canvas of life. It's a war out there, each note struggling to be heard for mental devastation, as the turbulent, rampaging music leaves none unscathed. This is not for the fainthearted but just as well reaches out to all fans of primal metal - thrash, death and black metal.

[news] PANIKK (Slovenia) - Unbearable Conditions (2014)

Hello!
It's been forever since I sent out a thrash metal news. This one is from Xtreem Music and the owner loves to support metal from all over - Nepal, Chile, Slovenia, etc. Panikk is reminiscent of the Bay Area thrash and it's strangely refreshing these days.

PANIKK (Slovenia) - Unbearable Conditions (Thrash Metal, November 22nd, 2014, Xtreem Music)

These days it's the third world countries that are keeping the thrash metal spirit alive. Panikk from Slovenia release their debut full length album on Xtreem Music that sends you on a nostalgic trip. They're not trying too hard, simply recapturing the magic of the tape-era thrash. We're talking about bands like Metallica, Exodus, Death Angel, Forbidden and Testament before the genre got more extreme and branched out into death and black metal eventually. This is straight up thrash, with emphasis on the feel than the obscurity or rawness, sounding energized, primal (relatively) and heaps of fun.

[news] PUTRID EVOCATION (Chile) - Echoes of Death (2014)

Hello!

Here's some killer dark death metal for a change. The band in context is from Chile and the bands there take their death metal seriously. Enjoy this festering slab of death metal done very, very well.

PUTRID EVOCATION (Chile) - Echoes of Death (Death Metal, November 1st, 2014, Xtreem Music)

Putrid Evocation breathes new life in the dark death metal category by also imbibing influences from the old Scandinavian scene such as Abhorrence (Finland), Purtenance, Nihilist, Convulse and of course making Incantation proud. The music is made with serious passion and sincere intent, the songs are fleshed out and exude a vibe that comes naturally, the air is dank and fetid. More importantly, justice is done to the genre. This sounds authentic, in that the band is very comfortable playing in this style even though this happens to be only the band's debut full length. Impeccably structured and paced, 'Echoes of Death' is the next revelation for fans of real death metal.

[news] Xtreem Music - SOULSKINNER (Greek Death Metal)

SOULSKINNER (Greece) - Crypts of Ancient Wisdom (2014, Xtreem Music)

About death metal This year we've seen the likes of Desecresy, Warlord UK, Gravecrusher, Coffinborn, Death Vomit, Aposento, Azooma, Dying Out Flame, a couple of great reissues of underrated Spanish bands, and there's more coming still. Here's a Greek old school death metal band carrying on the tradition of top notch death metal released by Xtreem Music.

SOULSKINNER (Greece) - Crypts of Ancient Wisdom (Death Metal, October 15th 2014, Xtreem Music)

It's hard to believe this band isn't from the early '90s, standing head to head with acts like Gorefest, Bolt Thrower, Grave, Unleashed and Asphyx among others. Looking into the band's history, you'll find Soulskinner is an experienced one with 'Crypts of Ancient Wisdom' being the band's third full length album, born around the time bands like Deathevokation, Kaamos, Mandatory and other revivalists did their bit. This band is all about traditional structuring (methodical), exuding that irresistible charm, adding more to the music than just brutality. It's as if there are tales to be told, feelings to be experienced, little pillars of classic death metal outlasting the sands of time, its appeal never to be diminished. It's about time Soulskinner that has been languishing in darkness gets noticed.

Line up -
Gothmog - Vocals
Bill - Guitar, bass
Spiros - Guitar
Kostas - Drums

EMETH (Belgium) - Aethyr (2014)

Emeth plays blistering death metal that's evolving since its inception. The band not only uses extremity for its art, but also delves into meticulous song structures without compromising on the speed or brutality. This band is comparable to early Cryptopsy, Hate Eternal and even Hour of Penance. The songs are varied and almost refreshing for a band of this ilk. The music is gritty, dynamic and dark - this band is sounding more confident than ever before. Everyone should check out this contemporary death metal band and many songs at that, lest you miss out on something special.
