Voici une première partie qui regroupe trois live mythiques. Il y aura aussi d'autres parties avec d'autres groupes mais pas non plus des tonnes. Soit c'est mythique soit ce ne l'est pas.

Ensuite voici une courte vidéo sur des considérations sur le côté live c'est à dire qu'est ce que un live pour un artiste et un fan? Et quel est l'intérêt pour un artiste de publier un live et pour le fan de l'acheter / écouter?

Une soirée de Rock-dur total avec Evil Killer (Heavy Espagne), Midnight Priest (official) (Heavy Portugal), Kolision (Heavy France) et Shotgun Logic (Old school Thrash metal) ; organisée par Execution Publique

Samedi soir, si on voulait écouter de la bonne musique il fallait se rendre au ROCK N EAT au 32 quai Arloing Lyon Vaise. Au menu 4 bons groupes c'est à dire Shotgun Logic (Old school Thrash metal), Kolision (Heavy France), Midnight Priest (Heavy Portugal) et Evil Killer (Heavy Espagne). Malheureusement suite à une ouverture des hostilités tardive - sur l'affiche la soirée était censée démarrer à 19h, ensuite on avait annoncé 20h pour un départ final à 20h45 - et à cause des horaires des TCL, votre serviteur a complètement loupé le groupe Evil Killer. Donc on fera l'impasse.

Shotgun Logic est formé par Pelleg: Basse / Kipré: Guitare / Kim: Chant / Lemoine: Guitare et
Jérémy: Batterie. Nouveau groupe dont on attend la première démo (4 titres inédits + 1 reprise) pour début 2018. Le groupe ouvre la soirée avec le titre Replicant suivi sans interruption par le titre Ghastly Void. Le son est en béton - un gros merci au technicien du Rock 'n Eat - et on entend bien tous les instruments et la voix de Tim. Le titre Vast & Infinite est déjà connu par l'assemblée puisque c'est le seul titre disponible sur youtube. Mais à la différence de youtube - où le titre est seulement instrumental, une phase béta si l'on veut - cette fois avec le chant de Tim cela prend une toute autre ampleur. Ensuite le titre The Next Step est une pure merveille et il reste gravé dans la tête avec sa mélodie, sa puissance et sa force de destruction massive. Le groupe termine avec la cover du titre Les Loups du groupe Strattson. Une prestation phénoménale grâce à un groupe en état de grâce.

Le voix de Kim est puissante et de temps à autre va piocher dans les aigus avec aisance. Jérémy frappe ses fûts comme si sa vie en dépendait et termine sa prestation dans un état de transpiration permanente ! A ses côtés - pour assurer les fondations de la maison - on trouve Pelleg à la basse qui assure. Pelleg joue sans médiateur et - ce soir grâce à l'ingé son - il peut profiter d'un son bien gras et lourd. Les deux axes sont énormes. Là où les deux guitares de la plus part des groupes metal jouent la même chose en phase rythmique - seulement avec une octave de différence - Lemoine et Kipré jouent dans des accords complètements différents et ils se complètent mutuellement. Les deux machinent riff sur riff et Lemoine assure aussi les solos. Des solos bien ficélés - courts - rapides - assassins.

La suite est assurée par Kolisium lui aussi un nouveau groupe de l'underground lyonnais. Oui car même si le groupe a été fondé en 2015 à Sainte Etienne celui-ci à déménagé sur Lyon très récemment. Kolisium est formé par Raphaël Rodriguez (Drums, Backing Vocals) / Dante Milk (Rhythm and Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals) / Kevin Chouakria ( Rhythm and Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals) / Lucas Sparks (Bass guitar, Lead Vocals). Tout le monde assure une très bonne prestation guidé par la voix du chanteur / bassiste Lucas Sparks. Là aussi les deux axemen sont à l'honneur avec Dante Milk un peu plus en avant en phase de solo et Kevin Chouakria qui assure énormément la phase rythmique. Raphaël Rodriguez a un jeu solide et expert à la batterie et la basse de Lucas Sparks se fond très bien dans le rendu final. Cette bonne prestation est  ponctué par les reprises d'Ace of Spades (Motörhead) et Balls to the Wall (Accept). Là aussi, suivez ce groupe de près, sans hésiter.

Midnight Priest a été suivi par votre serviteur avec un pogo tout le long, plusieurs montées sur scène, et une bonne partie à headbanger accroché au retour du guitariste Tiago Steelbringer donc on ne peut pas vous en relater les détails. Ce que l'on peut dire c'est que même si le groupe a vécu une double carrière c'est à dire - une première à caractère "fantasy / noir " et chantée en portugais avec l'Ep Rainha da Magia Negra et le premier album Midnight Priest; la deuxième partie avec un chant en anglais et un côté plus "social", force est de constater que tous ces titres passent très bien en live. Midnight Priest est un groupe de scène qui sait faire participer le public avec enthousiasme. Donc là aussi, allez-y et écoutez ses albums. https://www.facebook.com/midnightpriest/

Blind Guardian - The Sacred Worlds and Songs Divine Tour 2010

 Dans la discographie de Blind Guardian il y a un album fantôme. Oui, car cet album ne figure pas dans la discographie officielle du groupe et il n’y en a aucune trace sur leur site internet. Par contre il figure bel et bien sur le site metal-archives.com. De plus il est sorti via Nuclear Blast, dernier label du groupe en date. Il s’agit du live The Sacred Worlds and Songs Divine Tour 2010 qui présente comme première piste le titre Sacred Worlds en version edit et huit titres live tirés de la prestation que le groupe a faite au Wacken en 2007. Ce live, en version « jewel case » est sorti en Allemagne le 14 juillet 2010 avec le magazine Metal Hammer. 14 juillet 2010, donc environ deux semaines avant la sortie de l’album studio At the Edge of Time dont le titre Sacred Worlds se veut alors comme single.

Il y a deux points très positifs à souligner par rapport à The Sacred Worlds and Songs Divine Tour 2010. D’abord par rapport aux autres live du groupe, Tokyo Tales (1993), Live (2003), Imaginations from the Other Side (dvd 1995) qui réunissaient évidemment un live mais composé de plusieurs soirées réunies, choisies, ici nous tenons la prestation du groupe sur une seule soirée. Une sorte de « one shot » où la première prise est la bonne. Deuxièmement l’ambiance est dantesque. Le groupe allemand est au mieux de sa forme et ne s’épargne pas devant son public. Il joue à domicile, le festival de Wacken est en Allemagne et discute en allemand entre un titre et l’autre dans une ambiance survoltée. Comme dit, le groupe joue les titres le plus connus de sa discographie (même si je regrette qu’il n’y ait pas Majesty) comme vous pouvez le constater. On voit aussi que Blind Guardian est conscient de l’accueil mitigé de son dernier né de l’époque A Twist In The Myth puisque seulement le titre Fly est joué.

Quoi dire d’autre ? Superbe. L’un des meilleurs moments reste Valhalla, titre qui normalement se termine sur des notes de basse et de guitare et la voix de Hansi Kürsch qui déclame « Valhalla – Deliverance / Why've you ever forgotten me ». Ici le public reprend le refrain à voix haute et le groupe, une fois que la chanson était sensée être terminée, reprend de plus belle en rallongeant le titre de plusieurs minutes. Les chœurs du public, les « la, la, la, » sur Mirror, Mirror aussi donnent une idée de la bonne ambiance qui régnait ce soir là.

Il faut noter aussi que le titre The Sacred Worlds and Songs Divine Tour 2010 n’est pas trompeur même si la prestation du groupe est celle du Wacken 2007. En effet le livret intérieur présente la tournée qui allait démarrer en 2010, le The Sacred Worlds and Songs Divine Tour, avec l’annonce des dates, des  villes et des salles où le groupe aurait joué en octobre 2010.

Enfin la bonne nouvelle est que, même si vous n’avez pas The Sacred Worlds and Songs Divine Tour 2010, ce concert est disponible en intégralité sur youtube. En intégralité puisque ce soir là Blind Guardian a joué 16 titres contre 8 qui figurent sur le cd.

Gatekeeper - Live over Calgarae (live 2013)

Gatekeeper est un groupe canadien originaire de Edmonton, Alberta fondé en 2009 qui évolue dans un registre de epic – doom metal. Il a plublié un premier Ep nommé Prophecy and Judgement en 2013 sous le label A Forja Records et en vinyle via Death Rider Records. Fort de son succès Gatekeeper a decidé d’enregistrer l’une de ses performance live pour réaliser un album qui puisse montrer la force et la cohésion du groupe.

Voici donc que Live over Calgarae capture la performance que Gatekeeper a tenu le 6 avril 2013 au Dickens Pub à Calgary. Si la formation de base est Jeff Black - Guitars (rhythm), Backing Vocals, Leillyn McColman – Bass, Tyson Travnik – Drums, Shorre McColman – Vocals, Justin Song - Guitars (lead), lors de ce concert le guitariste Justin Song était malade et a été remplacé le pied levé par le guitariste Oskar Jankovic du groupe Samandriel. Chose naturelle puisque Jeff Black guitariste et backing vocals de Gatekeeper est aussi le claviériste de Samandriel qui est aussi originaire d’Edmonton.

Live over Calgarae se présente sous forme de cassette (tape) en édition limitée à 150 exemplaires numérotés à la main et avec un feutre doré. Cet album publié via le label Swords And Chains Records ne sera pas réédité autant dire qu’il est actuellement « sold out ».  Pour ceux qui seraient passé à coté ou simplement pour ceux qui lisent cette chronique, Live over Calgarae est disponible en écoute sur le bandcamp du label. Entrons dans le vif du sujet, la musique. En un mot Gatekeeper déchire tout sur son passage. On tient là un live album que tout fan de metal devrait écouter et garder comme son album de chevet. La prestation du groupe est intense, il se donne à fond sans aucun compromis. La production est rugueuse, brute, sans aucun "pro-tools", pas de quantification, pas de « punch-ins » et pas de « pitch correction ». A l’écoute, comme on a dit, ce live sonne vrai, comme si on y était. Certes le son n’est pas monstrueux, certes il y a ici et des imperfections, certes parfois ça ne chante pas net. Mais tout ceci fait le charme de cette prestation qui est remarquable.

Musicalement Gatekeeper peur faire penser à Manowar pour le chant (il y a un écho du titre Mountains par exemple)  et pour son croisement doom – epic on peut trouver une assonance avec Saxon (pour l’epic ou heavy) et Cirith Ungol (pour le doom). Après l’intro Vigilance démarre à la suite Tale of Twins épique à souhait. Gatekeeper est très savant en mélangeant parties plus doom, sombre à parties plus rapide comme dans Bell Of Tarintia. C’est toute sa force et sa spécificité. On reste subjugué par ce contraste qui reste toujours épique et martial. Les moments les plus marquants sont peut être l’enchainement des titres Prophecy & Judgement et Swan Road Saga  pour terminer avec la cover de Saxon Power & the Glory  qui se révèle un rouleau compresseur. Si ce live est très bon c’est que les titres le sont : chacun est une pure tuerie qui force le respect, que ce soit pour le songwriting, l’exécution, l’interprétation. Et aussi le groupe force le respect avec un live réussi, preneur, envoutant.

[…]Norwegian legend IN THE WOODS... has sealed a pact with Debemur Morti Productions. As of today, the core of IN THE WOODS... consists in C:M. Botteri - Bass, X. Botteri - Guitars, Anders Kobro - Drums and Tommy S. Halseth - Vocals.

IN THE WOODS...' legacy speaks for itself : from the grandiose "Heart Of The Ages", the incredible "Omnio" and up to the visionary "Strange In Stereo", their last full-length to date, the Norwegians have never ceased to surprise and amaze their listeners.

Back in August, IN THE WOODS... heralded their return with the following statement :

"The woods are full of trees, some old, some not. Some have been cut down, some recycled, and some are still standing, defying the harshness of the nature. This goes for the Kristiansand-based band as well.

Some of the trees have decided to rear their ugly heads once again, with a battle plan including the recording of a two-album concept. This was already back in 1999 ready for completion but for obvious reasons was left behind after the band’s decision to discontinue In the Woods..

Later this month the members will get together, rehearsing, working and polishing and use the time needed to ensure perfection and the highest level of quality needed to continue the In The Woods... legacy. Part one of two is pr today planned to be recorded in 2015.

During the period prior to the farewell gig in Kristiansand 14 years ago, on the 29th of December at Caledonien Hall, the line-up changed several times. But a core, consisting of original drummer Anders Kobro and the Botteri twins Chris and Christopher, has always been present. The line-up today consists of these three aforementioned gentlemen, as well as several other musicians, which will be announced soon - in addition, a very good replacement that will fill the shoes of Oddvar ,who tragically left us last year, R.I.P dear friend and brother, you will always be an energy In The Woods..."

After in depth talks it felt natural that this collaboration between IN THE WOODS... and Debemur Morti Productions had to happen.

A. Kobro comments : "In The Woods... is both proud and happy to be so fortunate to sign a deal with such a great record label as Debemur Morti Productions. We announced in August that the band is now working on new albums (a lot of material was already written back in 1999-2000, that never was recorded due to obvious reasons). Now, 14 years later we finally got back together and decided to continue In The Woods... from where we left it. We are super excited to finally continue doing what we love to do and we will do so with more enthusiasm and creativity than ever before. That In The Woods... now is so fortunate to be able to work with such a dedicated label as Debumur Morti Productions is for us a privilege. For In The Woods..., having the confidence and security that our future works will be taken care of by gentlemen who share the passion and love of the art of music as we do is of the utmost importance.

And all this from which was, that did become again! We raise the horns up high and shout loud SKÅL!"

AKHLYS

 

I'm also proud to announce that, once more, I sunk deep in the darkest pits of the underground to draw forth the American Occult Black Metal entity AKHLYS.

AKHLYS was created by Naas Alcameth (Nightbringer, Bestia Arcana) in 2009 to serve as a voice for the Muse that arises from the dark lands between death and dreams. A 37 minute, single-track, dark ambient album entitled “Supplication” was released in limited number by Starlight Temple Society the same year. Since that time AKHLYS has been slowly fleshed anew arising again as a dark ambient and black metal unification, the reification of dream sojourn through the chambers of Yesod.

Naas Alcameth comments : “I am very pleased to be working with Debemur Morti to release "The Dreaming I". I can hardly think of a more fitting home for AKHLYS and am proud to place my work amongst the elect of the Debemur Morti roster.”

Das nunmehr 12te und seit 2007 aller 2 Jahre stattfindende "Break The Silence" Metal Festival findet das nächste Mal am

17. Januar 2015

im Kulturhaus Pretzschendorf statt.

Nicht wie üblich in Dippoldiswalde, da der Veranstaltungsaal brandschutztechnische Mängel aufweist und für Großveranstaltungen bis auf weiteres nicht mehr zugelassen ist, wurde die Veranstaltung erstmals örtlich nach Pretzschendorf (ca. 15km westlich von Dippoldiswalde) umverlegt.

Das "Break The Silence" Metal Festival ist ein 1-tägiges Indoor-Festival und findet seit 2007 aller 2 Jahre (vorher unregelmäßig jährlich) an einem Samstag im Januar statt.

Es ist die Veranstaltung, welche für die Szene-Insider aus den Ballungsgebieten Dresden, Leipzig und Chemnitz/Freiberg - Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Thüringen und Brandenburg - den Start der Jahres markiert.
Hier treffen sich diese, und auch jene, welche dann in der folgenden Zeit wieder auf den Festivals der Welt unterwegs sein werden, um dies gebührend am "heimischen Herd" zu beginnen.

Das "Break The Silence" Metal Festival ist keineswegs gedacht als Alternative zu anderen Festivals - ob größer oder kleiner, es ist das, was es ist: der Jahres Auftakt für den Metalhead aus der nahen und weiteren Umgebung.

Die stilistische Mischung aus meistens Death/Black/Pagan Metal, mit einigen angesagten Topacts, normale Preise und die gediegene Atmosphäre garantieren dem Besucher absolutes "value for money" und für viele tatsächlich das eher selten gewordene "Ich war auch da"-Gefühl.
