Melbourne metal five-piece Trigger have set January 5th 2018 as the release date for Cryogenesis, to be released now globally through Hellfire Records Australia (The album was released on July 18th 2017 for the Australian market only). Recorded by Chris Themelco at Monolith Studios and mastered by Thomas ‘Plec’ Johanssen at Panic Room Studios, Cryogenesis is a sci-fi influenced concept album spanning 10 tracks at 53 minutes.
As stated by Trigger guitarist Luke Ashley;
“Cryogenesis is a science-fiction narrative that addresses the struggle of gods and man. These historical demigods are all too real and not of this world; constantly vying for cultural control and dominion over humanity. Upon the Forge of Hephaestus, Tethered to the Tide and Veins of Ambrosia are excerpts of alien forces exercising their will, whilst Dead Sun and Dysphoria focus on the human psyche. We have created a world akin to our own, referencing important points in human history with a grimmer mythological impact.
Sonically, our vision for the album was to bridge the gap between European and American influences, as well as the classic and modern aesthetics of metal. We wanted this to be a dynamic release that highlights the variety of the metal subcultures and throws them into a melting pot. It’s fast but spacious, heavy but contoured, all tied together with melodic strains. We’ve honed a unique identity for this release - we hope people have as much fun listening to Cryogenesis as we did writing it.”

German post-crust experimental veterans [B.ABUSE] return with their fifth full-length release; 'Memories Of Better Days Are Gone'. Right from the opening track there is something unusual about this band, immediately blending rolling post-rock atmosphere with a cross between Neurosis' hoarse bellow and clean, Cure-like vocal inflections and punching, punk-touched drums. They seek to push the listener with tracks walking the mid-tempo tension line, building from the simplest foundations (in the case of the opener just two chords), and advancing in movements to a point of critical mass, sometimes a brief blastbeat, often a crescendo of noise.
This is a band that manage to summon sounds such as classic Godflesh, Voivod, The Jesus Lizard, Discharge etc and fuse it into dream-like chryssalis of noise. The refusal to disappear into self-congratulatory pretension is something that sets [B.ABUSE] aside from their contemporaries and certainly makes this album worth checking out. The band's ability to move between math type hardcore chord stabbing, tidal synth atmosphere and traditional metal riffing is consummate and profound.

With influences ranging from all over the musical spectrum, they seamlessly blend multiple genres into their signature heavy sound. The group hasm had the pleasure to perform with some of the best bands from the East Coast and the rest of Canada as well as international touring acts.
Their fourth release and second album, Ascension was initially released independently on their own label, Chester Records, and will now be released worldwide through Sliptrick Records in early 2018. The album has already received a nomination for the “Loud” categories in both the MusicNB Awards and East Coast Music Awards and the band has performed at both of their respective showcases. [news] Dreamgrave - new album out with 2 bonus tracks
Dreamgrave's Monuments is now available in Digipak format with 2 exclusive bonus tracks
Hungarian progressive rock/metal Dreamgrave released successor to critically acclaimed 2014's Presentiment with title Monuments, which is now available in a limited edition digipak with two exclusive live bonus tracks! You can listen, download the new album, or get a physical digipak edition on the band's Bandcamp page.
As with their debut, the entire production is done by Gábor Vári in Miracle Sound Studios. Further parts of the series (The Mad and The Imperious) will follow each other within every 9-10 months. Digital artist Tobias Art took care of the illustration for both the cover and the digipak, just like he did for 'Presentiment' a couple of years ago.
Monuments, an EP series

Similarly to their debut, Monuments is also built around a concept.
"You’re being uploaded, transformed and processed: about the tendency of vaporizing uniformization of the individual, displayed by an EP series of the path that ultimately leads to chosen compulsion to conform."
Next to the title track which introduces the main concept the listener finds two, softer melodies: Drop The Curtain is a song for people, who have hard time fighting dementia, and also for those, who are dedicating their lives taking care after their loved ones for the very last moments.
Passing Faith in Others is a love song, but not in its traditional sense. Most people are eager to build an enviable reputation. Do anything beyond their capacities to own classy gadgets and surrond themselves with flawless people. In the other way around they also tend to trash everything that isn't perfect for them anymore, or break sometimes, and don't even bother to fix or work on them. And that's particularly true when it comes to relationships. Or even worse: they choose to live in a comfortable lie...
About Dreamgrave
DREAMGRAVE is a dark progressive band from Szeged, Hungary that initially formed in 2007, and after numerous line-up changes, finally came to fruition in September of 2012. The band first released a demo in 2009, but with their new line-up, they released their first full length album entitled ''Presentiment'' in October, 2014. Their sound marries traditional progressive metal with symphonic, gothic and strong influences from extreme metal. Featuring female soprano vocals alongside both clean male singing and death metal growls, the music bears influences from acts ranging from OPETH and PARADISE LOST to HAKEN.
Dreamgrave is about dancing on a blade’s edge. Every human being is driven by high hopes and ambitions: the longer one fights for those dreams, for self-definition, pursuing pure happiness, the more fragile they become, their dreams get vulnerable, and at the end even passionate ones able to give up.

1000Dead – A Thousand Dead (2017)
Metal Scrap Records
1000Dead est un groupe fondé en 2013 et originaire de l’île de La Crète
(Κρήτη) en Grèce (Ἑλλάς).
Le groupe se compose de Νίκο Μαρινάκη (Nikos Marinakis, guitar / voix), Αλέκο
Μουρατίδη (Alekos Mouratidis, drums) et Πέτρο Λελεδάκη (Petros Leledakis, bass
/ vocals). En 2014 1000Dead a sorti une démo et en 2016 il a sorti son premier
album homonyme en format digital en 2016. Grâce à
cette sortie, 1000Dead a déniché le label Metal Scrap Records qui sort en 2017
l’album 1000Dead en format physique. Et c’est très bien.
1000Dead fait du metal moderne et inspiré et pour certains aspects on
peut y voir des analogies avec System Of A Down et S.O.D. - Stormtroopers of
Death. Je me souviens quand j’ai écouté le premier album de System Of A Down à
sa sortie. J’en ai été impressionné. La même chose m’est arrivée pour 1000Dead.
Lying Through Teeth démarre
l’album de façon brutale et en plein mode hardcore. Rythmique endiablée et voix
écorchée le tout pour 2:44 d’explosion sonore. Unveil Hatred est riche de changements de tempi et on commence à
voir très bien le talent à la guitare de Nikos Marinakis. En effet il enchaîne
avec aisance riffs barrés et alterne avec aisance guitare rythmique et soliste.
Le titre se caractérise pour un break en mid tempo avec un côté plus atmosphérique
avec une très joli guitare rythmique et un écho du break (Opposition / Contradiction / Premonition / Compromise) du titre Blackned de Metallica.
Post-war Blues est un titre
plus réfléchi avec un sound « southern metal » que l’on voit bien
dans Pantera par exemple. Il y a un côté jazzy dans le riffing qui se veut déstructuré
et torturé. Il y a des accélérations fatales et une guitare qui « siffle »
à la manière de Rage Against de Machine.
Bring A Knife To A Gunfight est
un titre magnifique. D’abord par l’image du titre (apporte un couteau à la
fusillade) et parce que le côté « System Of A Down » fait son
irruption avec ce riffing déstructuré et des changements de tempo et d’atmosphère
continus. Le dernier couplet est chanté en voix claire (très jolie d’ailleurs)
et c’est puissant et complètement inattendu. Ensuite le titre se termine avec
une guitare acoustique. Bring A Knife To A
Gunfight est le titre qui résume à lui tout seul l’album.
Noise / Pain est un coup de poing en pleine figure, un titre pur jus qui
mélange metal et hardcore et avec encore une touche minime en voix claire. Comme
une subtile ponctuation.
This Day We Fight est une déclaration
de guerre avec une intro qui rappelle le Megadeth de Dread and the Fugitive Mind. Il y a un côté « sludge »
appuyé sur ce titre qui encore une fois est imprévisible. Cette fois la voix
est encore différente et par moments ‘hypnotique’ ou ‘sous acide’, choisissez l’expression
qui vous convient.
Unplug Me présente un côté décontracté
et plus calme ce qui met en valeur la basse du groupe et surtout l’aspect plus
mélodique du groupe.
The Oppressor Syndrome s’ouvre
avec les mots: "You're out of
order, this whole place is out of order" prononcés par Al Pacino dans le
film And Justice for All. C’est un
titre sur la justice mais surtout sur les revers de la vie où comment on peut
passer du statut de victime à celui de bourreau. Il s’agit surtout de l’invitation
à ne jamais lâcher parce que les revers de la vie sont nombreux mais on peut
toujours aller de l’avant, won’t back down.
Stonework reprend ce côté ‘southern
metal’ avec des chordes de la guitare qui sifflent, le tout axé sur un tempo
thrash. Encore un titre 'in your face' même s’il est varié par moments. Le thème ‘southern
metal / southern rock’ prend de l’ampleur à la fin du morceau comme une sorte
de « coda » d’un titre de musique classique.
Cross Section et ses 29
secondes sont une déferlante à la My America
de Nuclear Assault. Un gros moment de folie. Dignity… A
Dying Word possède une matrice death metal croisé à une attitude punk. Il s’agit
d’un monstre hybride qui tient la route et qui clôt de façon explosive un album
déjà pas mal.
Il faut souligner que le trio se donne à fond, chacun dans son domaine.
La guitare de Νίκο Μαρινάκη (Nikos Marinakis) tisse des riffs incroyables
(techniques et directs à la fois) et aussi de solos bien senti. Sa voix aussi
qui est scream sur l’album connaît de moments de variation (voix claire, voix
désincarnée) qui montre un talent considérable. La basse de Πέτρο Λελεδάκη (Petros
Leledakis) suit évidement la rythmique mais elle sait se tailler une part
importante dans chaque compositions avec des touches personnelles. La batterie
de Αλέκο Μουρατίδη (Alekos Mouratidis) est toujours précise, solide et rapide
et lui aussi montre plusieurs facettes puisque il sait faire évaluer son jeu
dans les morceaux plus rapides et ceux plus jazzy.

Il faut souligner le très bon travail de production où tous les
instruments sont mis en valeur et on se croirait sur scène à l’écoute du cd. De
plus quand la guitare change de rythmique à soliste il n’y a pas de perte de
mur sonore et ceci c’est assez rare pour être salué. (En d’autres termes si
vous jouez de façon rythmique la guitare vous trouverez à l’écoute un rendu
sonore très homogène et quand vous passez en phase de solo ce mur disparaît. Il
y a un écart de puissance. Cet écart on ne l’entend pas sur cet album). Il faut
souligner aussi le bon travail d’artwork et de layout réalisé par Νίκος
“VisionBlack” Σταυριδάκης.
1000Dead avec son premier album 1000Dead fait un carton plein. Il
réalise un album très originale, très bien écrit, très bien joué, très bien
produit. Donc vous n’avez plus qu’à l’écouter et à l’acheter !
